Mentally challenged and handicapped people are still looked down upon, and they are often not getting the support or the respect they deserve.

Deaf and blind people are treated as if they were also mentally challanged and it is not uncommon for parents to hide away children with disabilities.

Physically handicapped people who were injured during the genocide can usually get assistance for free in health centers.
