Health in Rwanda

Health, Dissability and Disease

The Rwandan health sector is one of the best funded and best working sectors in Rwanda. Most people can afford the cheap but effective health insurance and the spread of HIV/AIDS seems under control. Survivors from the genocide can also access special medical treatmentocal health centres countrywide, according to Theophile Ruberangeyo, Director of FARG in the New Times. There are free centers to get tested for HIV, where you can also get condoms. Still, there are many who are too sick, to know about the available help, and also some for some or other reason cannot get the help they need. Mentally challenged and handicapped people are still looked down upon, and they are often not getting the support or the respect they deserve.

Helps rurally empoverished women, many of whom are living with AIDS, make cooperatives to support their children. In Kigali, youth is also taught vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

HIV/AIDS

Rwanda has an estimated 190,000 people living with HIV/AIDS or an adult HIV seroprevalence rate of 3.1 percent. An estimated 210,000 children have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Currently, approximately 45,000 people in Rwanda are receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART) (ICAP).
