I accessed the library as a guest but apparently one needs an annual membership which is 10.000 Rwf for adults and 5.000 for kids.

At the library you can borrow books, use their computers or wi-fi, study in quiet comfortable settings or if you are a kid there is learning lessons with the one laptop per child program in the morning and first come first served free use of the laptops in the afternoon (is my impression).

Services:

Unlimited Access to WIFI as well as 3hrs daily free internet access on any computer terminals in the different sections of the library, if you are a member but you may also try as a guest.

  • Offering assistance to kids on the street

The “Open Environment” is in charge of finding the kids on the streets and making them feel welcome enough to come get a meal, a bath and general assistance.

  • Sponsor a Child

You can see which children seek sponsors here (collaboration with mindleaps): Rwanda Youth

By helping a child go to boarding school, you are securing him a place to sleep, three meals a day, two school uniforms and a proper education. This can be done for as little as $4.38 a day.

Here are some examples of how your money will be used directly in the field to change the lives of these street children:

  • RwandaNOW has established the Rwanda Wildlife Sanctuary & Science Education Center (RwandaSEC) as a venue for Rwandese to learn about their environment and to participate in protecting the environment in a sustainable manner.
  • RwandaNOW has been serving as a rescue/rehabilitation center for street animals. We are bringing these animals back to good health and then finding forever homes for them.
  • RwandaNOW is increasing the capacity of the local veterinary profession by training Veterinary Technicians and providing high quality Veterinary care to the public.
