Homeless - Bangalore

Updated on Jul 18, 2014

The number of homeless and hungry people of all ages are staggaring in Bangalore. According to Rajani Srikakulam, Convenor, Civil Society Forum for City MakersTh. "There are an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 homeless people in Bangalore”..."The BBMP needs NGOs to help run shelters, M Lakshminarayana, BBMP Commissioner, told Express. "“It is true many homeless people have no idea about our shelters, and that the number of shelters is inadequate. But it is also true that not all of our shelters are fully occupied,"” he said". (NIE, Jan. 2014). Regardless of the number people are there on the street and while som do get alms it's a rough reality, with far too few organizations helping.

A local volunteer is needed to help list and confirm the organizations.

Unconfirmed government sponsored shelters at:

J C Road, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Mahadevapura, Yelahanka New Town, Murphy Town, Bapujinagar, Goods Shed Road and Bommanahalli.
