Due to the hilly terrain of Rwanda, agriculture is mainly small-scale. There are many areas, which need improvement such as access to seeds, storage and proper irrigation mechanism.

Yet, there is remarkable progress with gathering in cooperatives, using cell phones for market access and the growing number of village mechanization locations, where it is possible to borrow eqipment.
