Our vans distribute about 200 packets of food everyday to the stray animals. Around 165 packets are distributed for small animals, which include dogs and cats. About 35 packets are daily served to various types of large animals. Feeding is done in Delhi and nearby areas and majorly in the South Delhi Area. Till today dogs are fed very punctually outside the School in Lodhi Estate, where Mrs. Irani Mukherjee, our Hon. Founder chairperson, used to teach.

Various beneficiaries that we attend include dogs, cats, cows, buffaloes, pigs, equines, elephants, birds, rabbits, and any other animal in need of our treatment and care.

We attend calls the entire day, rescuing animals at the site of traffic accidents, from homes, and from streets where animals are hurt and in need of help. Whatever the situation is our staff on mobile duty rushes to any spot at any time, when need be there. Since we do not have any proper place to treat big animals, we need our van for first aid as and when information is received and arrange for its pickup by some other organisation that have the facility. We are waiting to get a van for pick up of big and large animals, though we do not know when the negotiations will be fruitful. We regularly attend to horses in Tonga stands (Savitri Nagar, Zamrudpur, Govind Puri, Khanpur, Bhatti mines, etc.). We intend to work for donkeys and pigs in a bigger way but scarcity of funds and space do not allow us to work extensively for this cause. Our mobile clinic gives door to door service to poor owners of horses, buffaloes, cows, pigs and donkeys, etc. the services rendered by our Mobile Clinic was very much appreciated by local people.

These free camps had been organised in several parts of Delhi, Gurgaon and even NOIDA. From Friends Colony to Naraina we have covered a large span of Delhi. Our camps also benefit a large segment of the rural population living on the periphery of Delhi. These camps are aimed at making people more sensitive towards the needs and required care of the animals. The camps were organised in Neb Sarai, Sainik Farms, Naraina, Raghubir Nagar, Mayapuri, Sanjay Colony, Madangir, Khirki Extn., Ber Sarai, Panchsheel Park, Khel Gaon, Masjid Moth, Mehrauli, Green Park, Friends Colony, Chhattarpur Village, JNU, South Extension, Kotla Mubarakpur, and many other places. Most wide coverage of our services had been in the South Delhi area. We had also been organising free mobile anti-rabbies vaccination and clinic services for animals, at various places like New Friends Colony, Shahpurjat, Under Hill Road. Since, the initial days of the programme around 1000 dogs and 150 cats had been vaccinated. At an average we vaccinate 40 to 50 dogs every month.

openMOBILE EQUINE CLINIC
Aid Area:
Cuerpo:

The Mobile Equine Ambulance has been an integral part of the Friendicoes SECA Projects for the last 3 decades. Started in 1983 by Friendicoes to help all the working Equines in and around Delhi, the project was later expanded to provide treatment to hundreds of working equines with our team and horse ambulance across four states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

This Project was started with the aim to reach out to all those working equines who provide a strong backbone to the rural economy of India but are often denied the basic medical care due to lack of medical facilities and the owners ignorance. These animals live a hard life pulling burdens and carrying loads, suffering at the hands of their masters who see them only as a means of earning, devoid of any physical and emotional feelings. By extending its help to these animals the Equine Team is also indirectly contributing to the welfare of the owner’s family.

The Equine Team has under its care over 2500 working Equines who would otherwise have to do without any medical treatment. Saddle sores, burn wounds from brick kiln heat, lameness are just a few of the varying maladies that these animals endure on a regular basis. Old and injured animals are also often abandoned around brick kilns after the brick season is over. The presence of the Equine team ensures that these animals are brought back to the Friendicoes Country Sanctuary in Gurgaon where they live their remaining lives in peace and comfort.

The Equine team also helps build shade shelters and water troughs for the working equines in areas where there is no easy access to drinking water or shelter from the natural elements. Dehydration during summers and colic during winters are very common problems. The Mobile Equine Ambulance trains and educates the owners to take care of their animals in an emergency and provide first aid to reduce discomfort and pain.

The team runs 6 days a week covering 20 stands and an additional 29 brick kilns (during the brick kiln season) spread across the 4 states providing medical assistance to the animals.

Along with taking care of the medication and treatment of our shelter animals, our experienced vets also run an Out Patient Department, attending to the medical needs of the growing pet population of Delhi. Our OPD clinic is open all 365 days of the year and our team of vets and para-vets efficiently handles between 70-100 patients in a day, not limited to cats and dogs but also guinea pigs, hamsters, mules, donkeys, goats, monkeys, and various birds. Our vets frequently attend medical conferences across Asia in order to stay up to date with the latest techniques and our clinic boasts state of the art equipment including an X-ray machine and a path lab which basically ensure that worried owners can get all the testing done at Friendicoes itself. There are numerous instances where people from low income groups who look after street animals are forced to watch them suffer simply because they cannot afford treatment costs. At Friendicoes we provide free treatment for all such cases which come to us and encourage them to continue taking care of animals to their best ability while reassuring them that we will always provide medical assistance without asking for money in return.

DELHI SHELTER

Cuerpo:

At the Delhi shelter our ambulance services come to the rescue of accident cases, abandoned dogs or injured cats. The injured or sick animal is brought to our shelter for treatment and is returned to its territory after recovery. We get all kinds of cases ranging from fractures, skin infections, maggot wounds, hit and runs, acid burns, animals with infectious diseases, to abandoned animals, extremely abused and sick animals as well. In certain cases where animals are unfit to return to the street we work to find them homes or get them settled in our lifetrime care sanctuary. On any given day, we have over 200 animals in our Delhi shelter which are there for medical treatment or sterilization. They stay with us for the duration of treatment or post-operative care and are then returned to their own localities. Our shelter is also home to retired dogs from the Delhi police who have given their services to the city their entire lives. With us they get to spend their remaining years in peace.
