The state of Wisconsin legistlature has limited or reduced spending on public education while giving millions of dollars more to expand a private voucher program, slashing higher education funding, and  weakening licensing rules for teachers. In response to these funding challenges and lowering of standards, parents and teachers and local grassroots activists coming together to fight for the public schools in their communities.Madison schools are on a mission to close the gaps in opportunity that lead to disparities in achievement and to ensure that every child graduates ready for college, career and community. With a state budget that is not supportive of public schools,  Madison is taking a smart, targeted approach to school  budgets that perpetuates a strategy to raise student achievement for all and close gaps - while protecting classrooms.
