It is a home for about 120 boys and in addition many more from local families attend the school. The boys are mainly Indian and Nepali boys aged between 5-19. All come from very poor families, and most have lost at least one parent. They come from a Hindu or Buddhist background and they are free to continue practising these beliefs. At the same time daily life at Albella involves Christian input: “Prayers” morning and evening, and boys attend Sunday Service either at Albella or if they wish at the large evangelical church in Kalimpong.

Financial Comments: Albella Boys Home was registered in early 2014 with the UK Charity Commission as a “Registered Charity No. 1155956” under the name Friends of Albella Boys Home, Darjeeling. We have however retained our working name of Albella Boys Home, so no change is needed to our bank account name. It is administered by a group of unpaid volunteers, who give their time and personal resources to the cause. The main expenses of the Friends are Christmas postage, paper, ink, copying, and website costs. We do not spend money on advertising and brochures, and the trustees are not given traveling expenses to attend the two meetings each year. Offices are the homes of its three unpaid officers and the committee is proud that its administration costs are always well under 1% of its annual income, as confirmed by each annual independent examination of its accounts. All remaining monies are available for India.
