They advocate for changes in laws, treaties, and systems to protect children worldwide. They do research with partners and collaborate on networks and they train relevant partners in various countries.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world's largest humanitarian network that reaches 150 million people in 189 National Societies through the work of over 17 million volunteers.

MSF works in 69 countries and gives medical assistances in most of the worst hit locations. They are also renovned for working directly in critical battlezones.

MS works in more than 45 countries. They are engaged in both development and emergency aid and also run political campaigns in order to assist marginalized and poor communities.

Oxfam Ibis works with education and human rights in Latin America and Africa. It is operated from Denmark although it has recently become a member of Oxfam International. In Aalborg there is a small group of volunteers who come together to put forcus on areas of relevance to Oxfam Ibis.

Purpose

We have ladies who knit warm clothes, people who visit each other in the Visit service, an integration group that maches Danes with former refugees, health care workers and 4 second-hand shops, and much more. All the activities are run by volunteers, who are always needed and welcome in the Information booth at Nykærvej 43, to hear where they might fit in. 

Red Cross in Norway had 43.000 members in 2019 (RC:NO, 2020).

They work in different areas with: Kids and youth activities, emergency services, Inclusion and social interaction for lonely and excluded people, refugees and migrants, search and rescue in Norway. Globally the Red Cross in Norway also helps in emergencies, specifically in the health sector. It helps with development projects, refugees and the Red Cross tracking service for people who have lost contact in emergencies and war.

They are most known for creating family units for orphans where a woman takes care of from 4 to ten children in her village home. Yet they also have many other programs like family support.

SPANA helps working animals in the poorest communities of 30 coountries where they have 54 clinics. They help with vetrinary care, they educate both vets and children and try to assist in emergencies. 

The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future (IRC).

The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization aimed at promoting international co-operation.  It has 193 member states who finance it's activities. ZOA is an international relief and recovery organization supporting vulnerable people affected by violent conflicts and natural disasters in fragile states, by helping them to realize dignified and resilient lives.

AMASO provides advice, counselling and information to Afghans who have been deported from other countries and may have limited to no knowledge on how to navigate in Kabul. They used to offer housing from 1 to 4 months to let the most vulnerable get a plan on how to proceed but they have had to stop this due to a lack of funding.

Project supporting the fight against digital gap (ADEN) has been set up in 11 
French, English, and Portuguese sub-Saharan African-speaking countries from by the 
International Cooperation of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its goals are to 
democratise Internet access, train people in the use of new technology, and encourage 
the African production of content.

The main ADEN centres are Bambari “Ouaka,” Bangassou, Berberati, Bouar, and Mbaiki “Wambangana.

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.

IOM will provide direct assistance to victims through individually tailored emergency assistance or referrals, as part of a cooperation agreement signed with the “4040” free telephone hotline for protection monitoring.  

IOM now operates from a head office in Bangui and two sub-offices, one in Boda (en ethnically mixed community 200 km west of Bangui) and the other in Kabo wich covers also Moyen Sido in northern CAR, close to the border with Chad.

Emmaus International is one out of 310 socially aiding groups in 36 lande. The one in Denmark is in Tylstryp (Nordjylland) at a farm, where sale of secondhand furniture and other things are sold. The profits go to water supply projecs in northern Kneya. In addition profits also go to support local partners in other countries after natural disasters.

Grundfos is the world's largest pump manufacturer, based in Denmark, with more than 18,000 employees globally. Water2Life is our employee programme through which our employees act socially responsibly by taking an active role in the society around us. Grundfos employees collect fund through internal activities and provide access to clean water in some of the poorest areas in world. We do this through partnerships with local NGOs, people and businesses. 

 

The International Growth Centre (IGC) aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research.

Focusing on Ikombe & Katangi Divisions in Yatta District, MCDA initially highlighted health, education, food security and youth unemployment. MCDA has now expanded to a lead agency in these sectors and now includes WASH in their work. They have proven highly effective in training community members in sanitation, water harvesting and agricultural techniques.

Periamma supports projects related to education in 4 countries: Kenya, Uganda, Thailand and India. Thanks to private sponsors and foundations we financially support 4,500 students in 16 schools in the 4 countries.

Has created 350 jobs and serves informal Settlements with 326 toilets. Each customer is welcomed by a Fresh Life Operator, who provides toilet paper, sawdust, soap and water for hand-washing. Each clean toilet also contains a waste bin, sanitary bin for women, a mirror, coat hook, and a solar lantern for early morning and nighttime usage.

Umande works with communities to design and complete the construction of, thus far 52, bio-sanitation model units (bio-centres).  We are keen to re-design, up-grade and scale up these multi-purpose service centres.  The units generate biogas for cooking; recycle waste water, reduce carbon emissions and support urban agro-forestry through utilization of bio-digested waste residues.

Wind for Prosperity will create a world of new opportunities by accelerating access to clean water, healthcare, irrigation, education, communications infrastructure, and other social and economic benefits. It is different to most other corporate initiatives to alleviate poverty. The concept is commercially based and is more scalable and sustainable than efforts purely reliant on philanthropy and donations. It is business as a force for good.

Africa / Rwanda

IWPR Rwanda is a country office of its parent company, the Institute for War & Peace Reporting, headquartered in the UK and US. In Rwanda, IWPR provides a wide range of services from policy consultation to experiential learning seminars on a wide range of topics, and direct technical assistance for the Rwanda Media Commission (RMC) and the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) media unit to develop stable and efficient media regulation institutions.

They are open from 7 to 17. Street children can get a meal and some informal education. If they have been attending the center regularly for a year; they may be given a scholarship. There is also a washroom, basketball court and pleasant garden surroundings. 

Handicap International ANS works on serveral projects assisting handicapped, disabled, and vulnerable people. They also deal with PTS, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, awarenessraising etc.

Epilepsy affects around 1% of the Rwandan population. Some 90,000 people are affected by the illness and the lives and futures of 30,000 children of school age are compromised by this scourge.

Agahozo-Shalom youth village is home to app. 500 young people ages 14-21. The youths are orphans or vulnerable people from the entire country. They live in 32 family houses - 8 houses in each grade (5 female and 3 male) where 16 students and a family mother live together for four years. They are given education, proficiencies on their farm and are taught to give back to their communities.

In September of 2017, AHC became the lead agency in implementing US DOD/PEPFAR grant funded HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care, and Treatment in the Rwanda Defense Force. The program serves the military, their families, and communities around military health facilities throughout Rwanda.

Started by two girls, who heeded a calling to help orphaned and exposed children in Rwanda. They currently help 65 kids.

Feed the Future Rwanda Hinga Weze is a five year activity of USAID that started in June 2017. Implemented by CNFA. Through grants and technical support it aims to sustainably increase smallholder farmers’ income, improve the nutritional status of Rwandan women and children, and increase the resilience of the agriculture and food systems to the changing climate. 

Fidesco International is a Chatolic Emmanuel organization which matches proffessional volunteers with underprivileged groups in refugee camps, youth centers, orphanages, schools etc.

In Kigali the Fidesco center is named after the founders Cyprien and Daphrose Rugamba, who were killed during the genocide. Children at i Fidesco are offered a place to saty for up to 6 months. They can attends school and get uniforms and food while the staff looks for a more permanent solution with parents or relatives.

In 2012 this partnership was  developed to establish180 One Family Health ‘Health Posts’ across Rwanda over  three years. 

The Health Posts operate under a business-format franchise network. Run by experienced nurses, they provide an entry point into the formal Rwandan public health system.

The model, which was successfully piloted in Kenya, gives nurses joining the franchise access to funding and training in finance management. This enables them to earn a living while also making a significant impact to the health of their local communities.

"Initially, PIH was a direct provider of health services in Rwanda; now, increased local and national capacity has allowed PIH to transition into a more advisory role.

Current SNV projects support:

The Foundation is helping to establish strong outreach programs, including screening and surgical campaigns. They are located in Gisenyi's District Hospital. They also work with eight hospitals across the Western Province, supporting renovations and supplying basic medical equipment, training health workers, and supporting outreach activities to communities that have never before received eye care services.

The centre is run by Evode Usbyamahoro , who grew up a street child himself, and his wife Rebecca Ubaka U Rwanda is run by a loving couple, that have taken in streetchildren and help them, by providing a safe place to sleep, play and learn. They also try to get scholarships but rely on private donations and sponsorships.

This is a home for street children. The children live with Rebecca and Evode, who acts as foster parents. There are about 35 former street children living there however many have found sponsorships and attend different schools or universitites. They are presently building a bigger center on the outskirts of Nyamirambo.

Panzi hospital is located in Bukavu, Eastern Congo. Womon travel to the hospital to get treatment for gynaecological conditions following rape and child birth. Given the number of rapes in this area Panzi hospital provides a much needed service. It has four departments obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, surgery and internal medicine, plus the first cervical cancer screening in eastern DRC.

Natteravnene går rundt i usikre områder eller om natten for at skabe tryghed. De involvere sig ikke i vold men tilkalder politi om nødvendigt. De har mange lokale foreninger, der selv finder midler lokalt. Landssekretariat er en non-profit organisation, hvor medarbejderne er ansat af Fonden for Socialt Ansvar. Sekretariat står for den overordnede kommunikation, udarbejder materialer og tilbyder løbende råd og vejledning.

Derforuden har de genbrugsbutikker og en årlig landsindsamling. Størstedelen går til internationale projekter og det er svært at se hvilke. Jeg tror det er Save the Children International, der afgør dette.

Frelsens Hær i Aalborg er et levende kristent fællesskab beliggende på Mølleplads i det centrale Aalborg. Foruden gudstjeneste om søndagen tilbyder vi en række ugentlige aktiviteter for både børn og voksne.

Navachetana shelters Aged, Widows, Destitutes, Homeless and Abandoned Women in the society.

Nele Namma Mane provides shelter for children rescued from the streets or from abusive and neglectful parents. Many of the children are brought here by the police or social workers. There are 10 such homes in Bangalore and the rest of Karnataka. There is Nele Narendra (Mysore Road), Nele Niveditha (Ullal Main Road), Nele Premanjali (JP Nagar), Nele Chandana (Mamulpet), Nele Namma Mane (HBR Layout), and Nele Ashakirana (Bannerghatta Road). The four homes outside the city are Nele Dwaraka in Tumkur, Nele Ashrayadhama in Bagalkot, Nele Ajitha in Mysore and Nele Madhava in Shimoga.

At Omashram Old Age Home we have 40 old, abandoned souls being cared for...the total capacity now being 60 resident elders.

The Red Cross in Bangalore has a family welfare center which focuses on health and counseling. They have a blood bank and both youth and junior groups.

57 members, all of them retired helps kids in about eight schools and 1,500 children in all with a meal, shoes and clothes and the also have a  scholarship programmes for needy students. They do this both in Bangalore and in more rural areas. They also assist the elderly in the Humanitarina Hands Transit Home, set up by the Melwani Trust. In addition they do on occation set up wells and solarpanels. 

This Sikh Temple, ike many others offers food on Sundays and a stay to rest, if you are granted permission. You do not need to be Sikh but you will probably need to follow their guideline and wear something on your head, take your shoes off and wash your hands before entering.

Kigali / Nyarugenge

They are open from 7 to 17. Street children can get a meal and some informal education. If they have been attending the center regularly for a year; they may be given a scholarship. There is also a washroom, basketball court and pleasant garden surroundings. 

At MindLeaps center in Nyamirambo street children are invited in each week day. There they have a 3 phased programe, which may also include a small meal.

In Phase I, street children improve 11 cognitive skills through a standardized dance curriculum. In Phase II, children acquire job skills through vocational training (IT or English Language). In Phase III, top performing students are sponsored to attend local boarding schools – thereby exiting life on the street and giving youth the power to advance their own lives.

This is a home for street children. The children live with Rebecca and Evode, who acts as foster parents. There are about 35 former street children living there however many have found sponsorships and attend different schools or universitites. They are presently building a bigger center on the outskirts of Nyamirambo.

It is a home for about 120 boys and in addition many more from local families attend the school. The boys are mainly Indian and Nepali boys aged between 5-19. All come from very poor families, and most have lost at least one parent. They come from a Hindu or Buddhist background and they are free to continue practising these beliefs.  At the same time daily life at Albella involves Christian input: “Prayers” morning and evening, and boys attend Sunday Service either at Albella or if they wish at the large evangelical church in Kalimpong.

They have app. 17 school related projects in Uganda, Sri Lanka, Bulgarien and Indien. You can sponsorer a kid, give to a project or o the work in general.

Governed by a unique "right to shelter" mandate, New York City is required to provide shelter to families and individuals who lack housing alternatives. Because of this mandate, no one is ever put on a waiting list or turned away due to lack of capacity. The DHS helps families to prevent homelessness before it begins, they also provide temporary emergency shelter and have outreach teams to help homeless on the street.

In our noma project in Sokoto, we send highly specialised surgeons to the hospital to operate on patients. This happens four times per year, consisting of one plastic surgeon and one maxillofacial surgeon. Multiple operations are needed to treat noma disfigurements, making recovery a long, gradual process. Some patients will need up to three interventions spanning the course of several years.

Emmaus International is one out of 310 socially aiding groups in 36 lande. The one in Denmark is in Tylstryp (Nordjylland) at a farm, where sale of secondhand furniture and other things are sold. The profits go to water supply projecs in northern Kneya. In addition profits also go to support local partners in other countries after natural disasters.

We try to create a fun and informative network between asylumseekers, former refugees, danes, International people etc. We also like to help newcommers and solve problems of just about any kind. We meet informally, chat and help each other, play games and eat snacks or meals when someone cooks. Sometimes there is also education in danish, tigrinya, math and other information, depending on the day.

Broen i Aalborg er en lokal selvstændig afdeling, der også medlem af den landsdækkende forening Broen Danmark. Der ydes omsorg, samvær, hjælp til selvhjælp, henvisning til andre hjælpeinstanser, billig og god mad, kreditordninger på mad, bad (gratis), tøjvask (20 kr. for en vask inkl. tørring i tumbler ), samtaler på forskellige niveauer, aktiviteter (se særskilt afsnit om dette), fester, klaver og guitarspil, kortspil, pc'er med internetadgang (gratis), traditioner samt respekt for forskelligheden.

Café VæXt drives med hjælp fra frivillige og er for dig, der har eller har haft et misbrug. Misbruget kan være, at du har drukket, taget stoffer, spillet eller noget helt fjerde. 

Dine pårørende er også meget velkomne i huset - både for råd, vejledning, hygge og til at være med i familieklubmøderne eller møderne i Voksne Børn af Alkoholikere (ACA).

Café VæXt er også til for mere "almene" gæster. Det vil sige for folk, der ønsker at være i en moderne café, hvor vi skaber dynamikken i fællesskab med vores gæster i et spændende og anderledes miljø.

CISEM er en regions/lokal frivillig forening. De kender til området og tilbyder rådgivning og terapi til udsatte for incest og sexuelt misbrug. Der er rigtig mange incestramte, der ikke har råd til at gå i terapi, og for at komme igennem sådanne traumer og finde livskvalitet, er det nødvendigt at få bearbejdet oplevelserne. Derudover er det en stor fordel at være sammen med ligestillede.

Civil Society Help East aims to prevent loneliness among the elderly in particular by offering
joined activities, doctor visits, walks etc.. The association also wants to improve the quality of life for
elderly through helping with simple practical tasks which it may be hard to do even when you grow older.

De frivillige i Aalborg tilbyder lektiehjælp på sprogskolen (Kastetvej kl 10-14 eller 17-19) samt på Hovedbiblioteket (onsdag 15-17), grønlandstorvet (tirsdag 15-17) og på VUC Vesterbro 14 efter aftale. Herudover har de også andre aktiviteter fx: Få en Mentor, Sara's Syklub, Café for internationale venner i Aalborg, Haraldslund Læseklub om samfundet for to-sprogede, Løvvangens Pigeklub for piger 7-13 år (Tirsdag 16-18), Klub for somaliske børn, unge og forældre samt "Etnisk ung med dansk kontaktperson" samt "Ny Ældre" der viser bosnier aktiviteterne på ældrecentrene.

Danish People's Aid is a country wide volunteer driven organisation, which helps exposed people in both Denmark and abroad. They have three main areas: First aid, social work in Demark and they assist abroad in countries like Tanzania and Afghaistan.

They mainly do first aid courses, samarit go out to events and they also help with christmas packages for exposed families and family vaccations for exposed kids.

Dansk Kurdisk Kultur Forenings formål er at kontakte og informere medlemmer om Danmark og dansk kultur, kurdisk kultur, afholde møder med information om social tilværelse (dansk og kurdisk), udlændingelov m.v. Foreningen hjælper med sprog, tyrkisk-kurdisk- underviser i folkedans og giver musikundervisning.

Dansk Rumænsk Forening har som formål at fremme venskabsforholdene på det kulturelle og sociale plan. Foreningen er upolitisk.

Den Dansk Islandske Forening Nordjylland, som er en forening for Islændinge i Aalborg og omegn, står for forskellige og forskelligartede arrangementer, bistår nye tilflyttere med hjælp og rådgivning samt holder den islandske kultur og traditioner i live for Islændinge i Nordjylland. 

De giver gode råd men kan ikke fører en sag eller skrive noget på skrift.

Det Grønlandske Hus i Aalborg består af fire afdelinger; Uddannelsesafdelingen, Kultur- og Informationsafdelingen, Socialafdelingen og Ledelses- og Administrationsafdelingen. Huset er et af fire grønlandske huse i Danmark. Huset råder over 16 ungdomsboliger, en gæstebolig, kontorfaciliteter, fællesrum, tv-stue/læsestue, vinterhave, værksted og ikke mindst en overdækket pyramidehal på ca. 300 m2, som er velegnet til udstillinger, foredrag, fester m.m.

DFUNK Nordjylland er en forening af unge, der vil arbejde for at forbedre flygtninges vilkår i Nordjylland, ligesom de gerne vil gøre en forskel i det øvrige Danmark og internationalt. Det gør vi gennem sociale aktiviteter med unge flygtninge fra Aalborg og omegn og gennem events og oplysning om flygtninges vilkår.

Elsk Aalborg er et, eller opdelt i 2 projekter startet af Aalborg Valgmenighed. Formålet er, at engagere mennesker i at elske Aalborg, så byens indbyggere bliver mere hjælpsomme, mere gæstfri og mere venlige over for hinanden – på tværs af indkomst, bopæl, alder, hudfarve, religion og uddannelse. 

Det er foreningens overordnede formål at danne et netværk i Aalborg Øst for kvinder på tværs af etnisk herkomst, kultur og religion. Foreningens primære sprog er dansk. Foreningen skal danne rammen om et naturligt forum, hvor man kan mødes om forskellige aktiviteter og temaer. Tolerance og gensidig respekt er udgangspunktet for foreningen. Foreningens aktiviteter skal være med til at understøtte dette, samt deltagelse i samfundslivet – både for medlemmerne og deres familier.

Klub for psykisk sårbare unge i alderen 18-35 år, der drives af frivillige.

Færørsk Forening arrangerer forskellige former for sociale aktiviteter for færinge og deres familier.

Som navnet antyder, er det netop vores hensigt at yde en ”gestus” til trængte nordjyske børnefamilier.

Det helt enkle formål er, at hjælpe disse børnefamilier i en svær tid. 
Vores hjælp kan bestå af jule- eller feriehjælp til børn. Det kan også være akut hjælp af den ene eller anden art.

I Gestus har vi stor fokus på ”hjælp til selvhjælp”. 
Det er et indsatsområde at hjælpe mennesker ud af den situation de står i. Det kan eksempelvis være gældsrådgivning, advokatbistand eller lignende.

Gigtforeningenen i Aalborg har lokale motionsaktiviteter og foredrag. De rådgiver og hjælper folk med gigtsmerter. Foreningen holder Nordjysk generalforsamling i Aalborg men dens lokale foreninger er størst i Farsø og Hadsund, der mangles flere frivillige i Aalborg.

Gruppen er lidt spredt rundt i Nordjylland men samles en gang imellem og vil gerne have syaktiviteter. Vil også gerne hjælpe små projekter i DRC/Burundi.

Gennem vores arbejde møder vi børn og unge med alvorlige problemer som omsorgssvigt, ensomhed og misbrug i familien. Vi tilbyder dem gode oplevelser sammen med andre børn. De bliver inddraget i fællesskaber, opbygger venskaber, og de møder nærværende voksne, som støtter dem og vejleder dem i at træffe gode valg for sig selv. Og vi ser dem gro lidt efter lidt.

 

 

Consumer Council Debt Counseling is a national NGO that also has an office in Aalborg. You can both call, write, and show up for an appointment if you are socially disadvantaged with serious debt problems.

Our counselors work voluntary and unpaid. They are trained (or students) financial advisors, economists, social workers and lawyers and the advice is both anonymous and independent.

Hus Forbi is a monthly magazine sold and made by homeless people. The homeless buy the magazines and sell them for 20 kr. while they get to keep 10 kr. themselves. The articles aims to tell the public about homeless people.

Indvandrerrådgivningen giver gratis anonym rådgivningsservice inden for udlændingeområdet. Der gives rådgivning til indvandrere i Danmark, og man har kendskab til

Danchurchsocial (Kirkens Korshær) in Aalborg has several offers to people in need of social contact and people who care. They have 2 day shelters, 2 night shelters, 4 second-hand shops, a temporary housing project, a farm project and the uniq "Skurby" (Shedtown) where all types are welcome to live, although there is a waiting list. They also work with families, offering aid for Christmas and a mothersgroup every Thursday. In addition there is a Danchurchsocial priest who are open to talk about your problems and who also visits inmates in prison.

Kofoed's Skole is an offer for unemployed and socially disadvantaged people to help themselves. Through the workshop work, teaching, counseling, practical help and social interaction each student is taught to help themselves get ahead in life.

Vi har ti årlige arrangementer, der alle er gratis at deltage i for familier med børn fra 5 til 11 år. Familier, som oplever sig selv som økonomisk eller socialt udsatte, kan være med og få et tiltrængt åndehul i hverdagen.

Caféen bestyres af en gruppe frivillige, der går under navnet Venligboerne. Gruppen er en flok gæve kvinder fra lokalområdet, der synes, at Hjørring skal være den mest imødekommende kommune i Danmark. De har en kvindecafé hvor der er sang, brætspil m.m.

RW builds new health centers and ensures that existing facilities in Rwanda have the fundamental components they need to function, including fully stocked pharmacies and consistent supplies of electricity and running water. 

  • RwandaNOW has established the Rwanda Wildlife Sanctuary & Science Education Center (RwandaSEC) as a venue for Rwandese to learn about their environment and to participate in protecting the environment in a sustainable manner. 
  • RwandaNOW has been serving as a rescue/rehabilitation center for street animals. We are bringing these animals back to good health and then finding forever homes for them.

Partners In Health/Inshuti Mu Buzima (PIH/IMB) works in partnership with the GoR and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) to build, staff and train community doctors and health workers. They have a specific focus on HIV/AIDS and also works with the Higo Ubeho programme. "Initially, PIH was a direct provider of health services in Rwanda; now, increased local and national capacity has allowed PIH to transition into a more advisory role.

They are open from 7 to 17. Street children can get a meal and some informal education. If they have been attending the center regularly for a year; they may be given a scholarship. There is also a washroom, basketball court and pleasant garden surroundings. 

Nyamirambo is one of the most densly populated areas in Rwanda. It is difficult for the small children, whose parents are at work or who have no parents to get by. Some of these children go to Abadacogora and play. The nuns also makes them one meal a day. If you go by, you are welcome to bring food, which they can always use, or money as the nuns usually get a good price on the market.

Aims to create jobs and sustainable social enterprises through two programs of Social Enterprise Development and the Encouraging Social Responsibility program.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Rwanda was started by the Seventh-day Adventist Church as a way to follow Christ’s example of serving and caring for those in need. 

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is a multilateral development finance institution established to contribute to the economic development and social progress of African countries. The AfDB was founded in 1964 and comprises three entities: The African Development Bank, the African Development Fund and the Nigeria Trust Fund. 

In Rwanda currently runs 5 programs (March 24, 2005).

Fidesco International is a Chatolic Emmanuel organization which matches proffessional volunteers with underprivileged groups in refugee camps, youth centers, orphanages, schools etc.

In Kigali the Fidesco center is named after the founders Cyprien and Daphrose Rugamba, who were killed during the genocide. Children at i Fidesco are offered a place to saty for up to 6 months. They can attends school and get uniforms and food while the staff looks for a more permanent solution with parents or relatives.

Global Communities is a close partner of USAID. They implement various programmes with various target groups. Most are however rural and poor and are helped with cooperatives and farming but there is also focus on children with HIV/AIDs.

Health Poverty Action is currently working with Rwandan communities to provide safe water and sanitation facilities, tackle HIV and sexually transmitted diseases, to end violence against women and to reduce poverty directly through income generation.

Hope & Homes is the main organization used by the Government in Rwanda to find foster parents for children or retun them to their families. There are follow-up visits to the kids.

IFAD currently has 3 on-going projects: 

  • Kirehe Community-based Watershed Management Project (KWAMP)
  • Project for Rural Income through Exports
  • Climate Resilient Post-Harvest and Agribusiness Support Project

It seems to be an umbrella organization for artisan cooperatives in Rwanda. They sell products on their website and recive donations, which goes towards teaching the women in the cooperatives skills such as enterpreneurship and English.

They also worked on an evaluation of the impact of agronomy trainings on small-holder productivity and adoption of best agronomic practices and have sevaral other studiees withing different fields of delvelopment.

 

Our Rwandan office has opened in 1996, and we have worked essentially on supporting peaceful reintegration and reconciliation, through different ways. We now focus on youth perspectives, gender, environment and economic transformation challenges, while continuing to strengthen peacebuilding.

Our office is also newly the base of regional collaboration and cross-links development, with 3 regional oriented positions. Great Lakes programs currently works in Rwanda, Burundi, DRC and Uganda. Our programs in Burundi are managed from our Rwandan office.

Helps underprivileged and disabled youth through educational assistance, vocational workshops, and family support.

I accessed the library as a guest but apparently one needs an annual membership which is 10.000 Rwf for adults and 5.000 for kids. 

At the library you can borrow books, use their computers or wi-fi, study in quiet comfortable settings or if you are a kid there is learning lessons with the one laptop per child program in the morning and first come first served free use of the laptops in the afternoon (is my impression).

At MindLeaps center in Nyamirambo street children are invited in each week day. There they have a 3 phased programe, which may also include a small meal.

In Phase I, street children improve 11 cognitive skills through a standardized dance curriculum. In Phase II, children acquire job skills through vocational training (IT or English Language). In Phase III, top performing students are sponsored to attend local boarding schools – thereby exiting life on the street and giving youth the power to advance their own lives.

Mother Teresas is right in the center of Kigali. At 15 every day they serve food to the poor people who come to ask for food. The serve porridge etc. and on Sundays and sometimes Saturdays they get bread. The center is big and it is houses many elderly people or people with either physical or psycological problems. Their orphanage has been closed down by the government, due to a new policy but the still have 8 heavily handicapped children who they have not been able to find foster homes for.

Resonate provides short leadership workshops that allow women and girls to shift their mindsets, turn skills into action, and fulfill their potential. It is not free to attend these courses.

RUB is an organization made up of Blind people, who get together to find a way of bringing out the problems they share, in order to find solutions for them. 

Provides expert advisory services to local organisations within  Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. SNV's core business is the strengthening of the capacities of local organisations in the private and public sectors.

Solid'Africa helps patients at at least one, planning to expand to 4, hospitals in Kigali getting food, medical bills and transport covered if there is not other means available.

Sos Børnebyerne i Danmark støtter især 7 lande: Kenye, Cambodia, Tanzania, Somaliland, Rwanda, Laos og Ethiopien.

Through public campaigns and network this local organization aims to make preventing violence against women more of an issue for men.

 

Hekps women who are or have been exposed to violence. They help though trauma counseling, life-skills coaching and gender + hunman rights education, helathcare and opportunities for income generating activities. 

This is a home for street children. The children live with Rebecca and Evode, who acts as foster parents. There are about 35 former street children living there however many have found sponsorships and attend different schools or universitites. They are presently building a bigger center on the outskirts of Nyamirambo.

A foster home for puppies in Kigali. 100% non-profit and runs from their own home.

If they have room they accept puppies and if you wish to adopt one they are most likely to have one for you.

They have two clinical sites in Rwanda which offer comprehensive care for 2,316 patients living with HIV (including 600 children and youth). Here they also offer confidential HIV testing, clinical evaluation, HIV prophylaxis, antiretroviral treatment (ART), as well as care for opportunistic illness and other medical problems free of charge. They Currently provide VCT at the Centreville and Nyacyonga Health Center. They have 3 income generating activities and several support groups plus many youth activities.

Rwanda / Kirehe

Point Foundation has programmes for the app. 40 children and youths with dissabilities at the Noel Orphanage in Nyundo near Gisenyi, which in recent years has been home to above 700 children and young adults. Some have physical disabilities, others mental and some both. 

The Ubumwe Center serves more than 130 children and adults with counseling, primary education, vocational training and workshop employment. The center provides a meal for its students, they are taught literacy, computer skills, the deaf learn sign language, and all are trained to make a variety of crafts including dolls, jewelry and souvenirs.

It was created by the UNHCR and the Tanzanian government in 1996/1997 after an estimated 150,000 Congolese refugees from the eastern Sud-Kivu region of the DRC crossed the border, by crossing Lake Tanganyika, into the western region of Tanzania, escaping civil war. Until the riots and civil war like situation in Burundi began the population of the camp was actually reducing. But since over 110,000 Burundians arrived in Tanzania and were split between Nyarugusu (65,000) and two other camps: Nduta (55,000) and Mtendeli (19,000) (WOW).

They mostly deliver food baskets to the most vulnerable families in Sana'a and surrounding areas. Occationally they also deliver other items such as school backpacs and blankets.

Mwatana programs defend and protect human rights. Its researchers conduct field investigations to detect and stop human rights violations. The organization also attempts to provide support and justice for victims, to hold accountable those in violation of human rights, and to help craft legislation and policies that prevent such violations.
